The mission of Forest Hills Consolidated School, in partnership with staff, students, family and community, is to educate, empower and challenge students to realize their full potential, as individuals and as citizens of the world, and to develop a life-long thirst for knowledge.

 

Academic Expectations

 

To assess the cultural, environmental, economic and political impacts of humans and their behaviors on the world.

Students will demonstrate an understanding of global awareness in a multicultural world.

To read and write effectively.

Students will demonstrate proficiency in phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary development, reading fluency and reading comprehension as well as demonstrate proficiency in writing.

To speak and listen effectively.

Students will demonstrate proficiency in writing and delivering speeches with a purpose. Students will evaluate speech for its effectiveness.

To analyze and evaluate sources critically and objectively.

Students will discern between primary and secondary sources and evaluate the author’s credibility and possible bias.

To apply math skills in practical and theoretical situations.

Students will demonstrate appropriate problem solving strategies given practical and theoretical situations.

To use the scientific method to solve everyday problems.

Students will demonstrate ability to analyze and interpret data, make predictions based on observations, test these predictions against the original problem, and formulate conclusions based on the evidence gathered.

To be proficient in the use of technology.

Students will demonstrate the use of several different software programs for a variety of practical applications.

Students will be knowledgeable in the use of technology in various career options.

Students will demonstrate proficiency in keyboarding skills.

To demonstrate artistic knowledge and techniques.

Students will demonstrate knowledge of several different mediums and techniques in such areas as art, music or dance.

To be physically fit and aware of healthy lifestyles.

Students will perform a variety of physical activities and meet routine physical demands.

Students will demonstrate knowledge of healthy choices of how to treat body and mind.

 

Social and Civic Expectations

To make responsible personal choices and set appropriate goals.

Students will be punctual, complete assignments on time, comply with rules of the student handbook, meet attendance requirements, meet requirements for graduation and explore career options with advisement from guidance resources.

To demonstrate teamwork and leadership skills.

Students contribute appropriately in activities within the academic arena and extracurricular areas.

Students set a positive example within the community at large.

To be a productive, involved, and responsible citizen.

Students will participate in community activities (i.e. extracurricular clubs and organizations, volunteers, employment, service learning)

To demonstrate respect and honor diversity.

Students will treat fellow human beings and inanimate objects in an appropriate manner, except mosquitoes and black flies.

Students will demonstrate appreciation for differences among fellow human beings .
