Summer reading for students entering grade 6.
Summer Reading Grades 6,7,8.pdf
Reading over the summer is extremely important for keeping the skills fresh that you have learned during your fifth grade school year. Summer reading is assigned to all students in kindergarten through twelfth grade.
Assignment: I ask that you read four books for the Scholastic Summer Challenge. Please also handwrite a friendly letter to me. Make sure it is written in the appropriate format, and check to make sure the envelope has everything necessary on it. This letter will go in the grade books for Language Arts once school starts. Letters may be dropped off at the school, or put in the mail to me at the following address.

Your one-page letter should include the following:
• 1st paragraph: A short introduction, including your name, a few facts about yourself, and the date you completed your first summer reading book.
• 2nd paragraph: The title and author of the book, a description of one or two of the main characters, the setting, and a summary of the story.
• 3rd paragraph: Your personal rating of the book, from 1-5, with 5 being the highest. Also include your reasons for the rating. What did you like best? What did you like least? Would you recommend the book to friends?
Again, this summer, parents can go online to the school site and access Accelerated Reader and quiz their child(ren) at home. Another option is the town library which is open on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays from 2-4 p.m. The school library will not be available this summer. If for some reason, you do not have access to a computer, the school office would be glad to allow you in (by appointment only) to use one in there. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.
Remember not all books are in the A.R. System. Please check to make sure the book has a quiz. When school reopens in the fall, I look forward to seeing students that met or surpassed the set expectations. Good luck to you, and I look forward to reading your letters!!
