Eighth grader Kori Coro was watching the news with her grandfather witnessing the terrible devastation taking place in Haiti. She wanted to do something. As a result, she turned to her eighth grade class and for the past two weeks they have raised over $1,600. Their goal is to raise $5,000 to give to Pam and Luke Brochu, formerly of Jackman, who work with an orphanage in Haiti. Every penny donated will go directly to the children. The Brochu's are currently in Haiti offering their help. Mr. and Mrs. Brochu will join the eighth graders later in the year to share their experiences in Haiti.
The eighth graders have many fundraisers planned and have had lots of support from local businesses including Four Seasons, Mountain Country Supermarket, Bishop's Store, Mike St. Peter Safety Services, and Associated Grocers of New England. They are currently offering "Jackman to Haiti" orange wristbands for a minimum $2 donation.
If you would like to help the eighth graders, donations are being accepted at the school. Checks should be written to the Forest Hills Class of 2014/Haiti. For more information, contact the school at 668-5291.
