I got my start in education in 1976 as a first and second grade teacher. I then moved to the high school level as a one-room high school teacher and was placed in a community that had not had a high school before. As my career progressed, I became a principal and in 1987, I was appointed superintendent and immediately was involved with a three school district consolidation effort. I learned that challenges arise and are solved but our focus must remain on our students and their learning.

In between various assignments, I returned to graduate school and ultimately completed my terminal degree at Teachers College, Columbia University. My most recent work has been with the Re-Inventing Schools Coalition (RISC) as a consultant and as a part-time Superintendent in Milford, Maine. I have also been working as a private contractor doing federal grant evaluations. The position with RISC resulted from the work I did in Alaska. The RISC model and your interest in it was the reason I was interested in working with you and your school community. While school reform and the improvement of teaching and learning is my work, I have also been very active in educational advocacy at the judicial level. Over the past 10 years, I have been working with a group that has successfully pointed out unconstitutional issues with respect to State education efforts. My work with this has been as a researcher, program evaluator and court recognized expert witness. Working to make sure schools work for all children is important to me as I am sure it is to you.
